Cost of the first satellite program of Azerbaijan is estimated at $250 million, JSC Azerkosmos chairman Rashad Nabiyev said on Tuesday.
He said work has been launched already on construction of the main and backup satellite control stations, which will be completed by late September.
Azerbaijan's first telecommunication satellite Azerspace is expected to be launched in late 2012.
French Arianspace will send the satellite into orbit. Azerspace's manufacturer is Orbital Sciences Corporation. An orbital position of 46 degrees east longitude has been leased from Malaysian satellite operator MEASAT.
