BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 10. Internet restriction in Iran is a new obstacle for the country's foreign trade, Chairman of Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce Hadi Tizhoush Taban told Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines & Agriculture (ICCIMA), Trend reports.

There has been a wave of protests in Iran since September 18, 2022 and the protests are now covering various fields, economy, social inequality, ethnic inequality and so on. Due to the protests, the internet has been restricted in Iran.

According to Tizhoush Taban, this obstacle seriously affects the country's foreign trade with various countries, including Russia.

“There are a number of other problems, such as financial and banking problems in trade between Iran and Russia. The mentioned problems should be solved soon. Generally, both sides have found different solutions for solving financial and banking problems but these solutions should be implemented as soon as possible,” he added.

The chairman also noted that in order to increase cargo transportation to Russia necessary infrastructures should be created in Iran. If the infrastructures are created, Iran's cargo transportation and exports to Russia may increase.

In total, the non-oil trade turnover between Iran and Russia amounted to 2.08 million tons worth approximately $1.22 billion during the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2022).

Iran's non-oil trade turnover with Russia for 6 months increased by 38.4 percent in value and 18 percent in volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.
