BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec.1
By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:
Kazakhstan may restrict receiving containers from Europe to China due to Chinese side not receiving cargo in covered wagons, Trend reports citing Kazakhstan’s KTZ Freight Transportation JSC.
The company said that as of Nov. 30, 2020, 177 trains (8,850 cars) in the direction of Dostyk-Alashankou have been removed from the traffic, as well as 42 trains (2016 cars) in the direction of Altynkol-Khorgos.
Over the past two weeks, the reception of trains from Kazakhstan at the Dostyk-Alashankou and Altynkol-Khorgos border crossings has almost halved.
“Over the past 15 days, the Chinese side has not accepted cargo in covered wagons, including grain crops in bags, non-ferrous metal, fertilizers, chemicals, building materials, cotton and cargo in open wagons, including coke, ferroalloys, timber. As a result, as of November 30, there are 11,829 wagons in the direction of the Dostyk-Alashankou border crossing, about 3,000 containers, and 3447 wagons and over 1,800 containers in the direction of the Altynkol-Khorgos border crossing,” the company said.
All this leads to a change in delivery time of the goods,” the company said.
“In case of an increase in the abandoned trains with containers, the acceptance of containers from Europe to China may be limited, which will greatly affect the image and development of container transit traffic in the direction of China-Europe-China,” the company said.
