For the first time, Uzbekistan was elected to the authoritative UN body in the field of transport and customs administration for 2021-2022, Trend reports with reference to Dunyo news agency.

Elections to the Executive Board of the Customs Convention on the International Carriage of Goods (TIRExB) were held on February 11 in Geneva, Switzerland, using the 1975 TIR Carnet (Transports Internationaux Routiers Convention).

According to the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to the UN Office at Geneva, 57 voting member states of the TIR Convention took part in the elections, which were to elect nine members of the Executive Board out of 11 candidates.

To date, 77 states are parties to the TIR Convention. The UN Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva serves as the secretariat of the Convention.

Head of the Main Directorate of the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan Rustam Kabulov was nominated for the TIRExB.

Following the voting, the representative of Uzbekistan was first elected to this authoritative UN body in the field of transport and customs administration for 2021-2022.

Thus, from now on, Uzbekistan, as a member of the TIRExB, will be directly involved in the process of setting the agenda and monitoring the application of the TIR Convention, including the functioning of the guarantee system, as well as control over the printing and distribution of TIR Carnets in a centralized manner.
