Astana has enough experience and opportunities to host the 2017 World Petroleum Congress, Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant Director General Shukhrat Danbai said today.

"Astana has enough experience and opportunities to host the 2017 World Petroleum Congress," Shukhrat Danbai told Trend today.

According to him, experience in holding such events was formed during the Kaz Energy international energy forum, which has been held in Astana for the past seven years.

"Moreover, as it is known, there is a proposal to hold the 22nd World Petroleum Congress together with the International Exhibition EXPO-2017," he stressed. "The relevant infrastructure will be built in Astana by this time."

It was previously reported that if Astana's bid for hosting the 22nd World Petroleum Congress in 2017 is chosen, this event may be combined with the international exhibition EXPO-2017, deputy chairman of the Association of Kazakh oil companies "KazEnergy" Jambulat Sarsenov told Trend earlier.

Sarsenov reminded that Kazakhstan's competitors for the right to host the congress are Houston (USA), Istanbul (Turkey) and Copenhagen (Denmark).

The final decision will be made October 23, 2013 by a vote in Calgary (Canada).

The World Petroleum Congress is held every three years. The next 21st World Petroleum Congress to will be held in Moscow in 2014.
