Kazakhstan launches local poultry farms for import substitution in agriculture sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 30

By Nargiz Sadikhova – Trend:

Eight new poultry farms the capacity of which is 94,500 tons of meat and two duck and goose farms were commissioned in Kazakhstan over 11 months of 2020, Trend reports citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture.

The farms were commissioned within the framework of implementing activities to substitute import in agriculture.

This year, 18 industrial dairy farms with a total capacity of 87,800 tons of milk and 30 family dairy farms for 3,200 heads of dairy production with a total capacity of 10,100 tons of milk were also commissioned this year.

This year, the farmers also harvested 20.8 million tons of high quality grain. Several factors influenced good quality of the crops: favorable weather conditions during sowing and harvesting campaigns, a threefold increase in the volume of state support for the agro-industrial complex, renewal of agricultural machinery fleet, and increased control over the improvement of agricultural technologies.

Thanks to the improvement of the mechanism for subsidizing seed production, the volume of use of low-quality seeds decreased from 224,300 tons to 181,000 tons in 2020.

In addition, in order to ensure high-quality and timely implementation of spring field work and obtain a stable harvest, the government made a forward purchase of agricultural products for 24.5 billion tenge ($58.3 million) from 369 agricultural producers.
