BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 11. Kazakhstan is aimed to increase grain exports to China to 1 million tons per year, Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Yerbol Karashukeyev said at a meeting with leading agriculture companies of China COFCO and CITIC Group, Trend reports via the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan.
At the meeting, the Kazakh minister briefed the Chinese side on the extensive prospects for growth and cooperation in the field of agriculture and plans to establish direct contacts between the business communities of the two countries.
In particular, the management of two Chinese companies COFCO and CITIC Group was invited to supply grain through local Kazakh companies that have significant grain reserves in Kazakhstan and can provide the necessary volumes and quality of grain for export.
Additionally, at a meeting with representatives of the China Meat Association, Yerbol Karashukeyev noted that Kazakh enterprises expect the earliest resumption of exports of frozen meat: beef, lamb and pork.
The Kazakh minister discussed the possibility of accrediting additional local meat processing plants for export to China. Currently, only 4 enterprises have the appropriate permit, but the list could be expanded by an additional 13 companies.
Last year, 1.06 million tons of meat were produced in Kazakhstan. The main share of exports falls on Uzbekistan, the UAE, and Kuwait.
