ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 20. The gross inflow of foreign direct investments from the US to Kazakhstan increased by 82 percent, reaching $5.1 billion in 2022, the Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan said during his speech in a roundtable discussion with members of the Kazakhstan-American Business Council (USKBZC), Trend reports.
According to him, there has been consistent growth in investments from the US into the country every year. The US maintains its position among the top three largest investors in the Kazakh economy.
According to Almas Aidarov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, the country received $28 billion in the form of foreign direct investments (FDIs) in 2022, which is the highest amount in the past ten years (FDIs reached $28.9 billion in 2012).
Notably, the Netherlands, the US, Switzerland, Belgium, Russia, South Korea, China, France, the UK, and Germany emerged as the leading investors in Kazakhstan in terms of total FDIs.
Meanwhile, some $7.6 billion in FDIs have been attracted to Kazakhstan in the first quarter of this year, which is 10 percent more than in the same period in 2022.
The share of the processing industry in the overall foreign direct investment inflows increased to 20 percent last year. Previously dominant sectors like mining and metallurgy, which accounted for around 70–75 percent of investments in previous years, made up approximately 50 percent of the total FDIs in Kazakhstan.
