ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 13. Currently, we are completing the procedures for forming the project operator, Kalamkas-Khazar Operating, and by the end of 2023, we intend to move on to the project documentation development stage, Magzum Mirzagaliyev, KazMunayGas Chairman of the Board of Directors said, Trend reports.

He has made the remark during the meeting with Russia's LUKOIL representatives in Astrakhan.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the work progress on Kalamkas-Sea and Khazar fields, which are currently under major development instructed by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, due to the gradual depletion of Kazakhstan's existing oil deposits and the reduction in oil production.

"The joint project of KMG and LUKOIL is being implemented in line with the president's directives to expedite the development of new deposits and actively attract investments in geological exploration," noted Mirzagaliyev.

Furthermore, the meeting also discussed the prospects of creating a consortium between KMG Engineering and LUKOIL-Engineering for cooperation in the field of engineering and scientific-technical support, not only for Kalamkas/Khazar and other major projects but also for operational activities.

The Kalamkas-Sea field is situated in the central region of the northeastern part of the Caspian Sea, where the water depth ranges from 7 to 8 meters.

Located approximately 30 kilometers southwest of the Kalamkas-Sea field and 65 kilometers northwest of the Bozashy peninsula, the Khazar field features a sea depth of approximately 6 to 8 meters.

Notably, the Kalamkas-Sea and Khazar fields represent the sole reserves within the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea that have been officially confirmed and included in the Republic of Kazakhstan's balance.
