ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 27. Kazakhstan Railways (Kazakhstan's national company) has completed ahead of schedule the plan for cargo transportation to China through the Dostyk-Alashankou border railway crossing, Trend reports.
As a result, on November 25, the last 16 trains in the annual plan were transported to China via the Dostyk-Alashankou border railway crossing, completing the plan in less than 11 months.
Over 14.4 million tons of cargo have already been carried to China via the Dostyk station, representing a 16.4 percent increase over the same period last year.
From January to October 2023, the volume of freight transported by rail between Kazakhstan and China set a new high of 23.6 million tons. According to the most recent Kazakhstan Railways data, this volume has climbed by 22 percent year on year.
For 2024, Kazakhstan plans to boost its transit volume to China up to 27.8 million tons, which is 1 million tons more than in 2023.
Meanwhile, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and China amounted to $19 billion from January through August 2023, which is 22.6 percent higher than in the same period of the previous year ($15.5 billion).
This year, China's share of total trade turnover was 21 percent.
Kazakhstan's trade turnover with China will be $24.1 billion in 2022, up 34.1 percent from the previous year.
Kazakhstan's exports grew 34.7 percent year on year to $13.2 billion. Kazakhstan's exports to China accounted for a sizable 15.6 percent of the country's total commercial volume, while imports from China to Kazakhstan increased by 33.5 percent year on year, totaling $11 billion.
China has a 21.9 percent share of the Republic of Kazakhstan's import structure.
