ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 7. The volume of exports of grain cargo from Kazakhstan to China amounted to 2.2 million tons in 2023, which is three times more than in 2022, Trend reports.
This was announced during the first Kazakh-Chinese grain forum, which took place in the city of Bole in China.
One of the main crops supplied by Kazakhstan to China is barley and wheat.
In general, the volume of cargo transportation between the two countries at the end of 2023 increased by 22 percent compared to the previous year and reached a record figure of over 28 million tons. Cargo exports increased by 35 percent, to 12.6 million tons.
During the forum, the Kazakh side presented information on the large-scale work being carried out to repair the track, modernize signaling and automation equipment, construct new sections, and expand infrastructure on the Moyynty-Dostyk railway section.
Issues of cooperation in the field of transport and logistics, the possibility of increasing cargo turnover between Kazakhstan and China, as well as the conditions for the supply of export cargo, were also discussed at the forum.
To note, China became Kazakhstan's largest trading partner in 2023. The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and China was $31.4 billion in 2023. The volume of trade turnover increased by 30 percent from the same period in 2022 ($24.2 billion).
At the same time, in terms of trade turnover, exports to China during the aforementioned period totaled $14.7 billion, 14.7 percent greater than from January through December 2022 ($13 billion).
In addition, imports from China surged by 50.5 percent from January through December 2023, totaling $16.7 billion. In 2022, imports totaled $11.1 billion.
