ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 28. Kazakhstan maintains a principled stance on disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during a meeting with Izumi Nakamitsu, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs, Trend reports via Akorda.
“These issues are becoming increasingly acute and significant in the context of current global events. It is certainly a matter of concern. Tomorrow, we observe the International Day Against Nuclear Tests. This is a very important date meant to remind humanity of the dangers of nuclear testing and the use of nuclear weapons,” Tokayev said.
He emphasized that Kazakhstan is committed to close cooperation with UN institutions and views the Organization as an indispensable and universal international body.
In turn, Nakamitsu praised Kazakhstan’s leadership in the global non-proliferation process.
