BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 19. EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) has invested 41 million euro in Kyrgyzstan through16 projects since the beginning of 2023, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov said during his meeting with President of EBRD Odile Renaud-Basso, as part of the EU-Central Asia economic forum, Trend reports.
During the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation within EBRD, including in the areas of finance, energy and transport.
Japarov thanked EBRD for the provided assistance, noting that the bank is a strategic partner of the country and provides it with significant support in all major sectors of economy.
“Kyrgyzstan’s real economic growth stood at 7 percent last year, despite the fact that some organizations and experts forecasted recession in the economy,” Japarov said.
Following the meeting, the sides also discussed financial agreements regarding the implementation of projects in transport and energy field.
The EBRD has been cooperating with Kyrgyzstan since 1992. The bank activities in the country focus on fostering sustainable growth, enabling SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises), promoting the sustainability of public utilities, and strengthening the financial sector.
So far, the bank has provided investments of 879 million euro for 221 projects in Kyrgyzstan.
