BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 4. The government of Kyrgyzstan has set a target to collect 100,000 tons of wheat in 2024, Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, said, Trend reports.
He mentioned that there are poor harvests in Kazakhstan and Russia. Reportedly, Russia and Kazakhstan are the primary wheat suppliers to Kyrgyzstan. Torobaev also emphasized that the country will not face a shortage of flour, sugar, or oil this year.
On September 25, Kyrgyzstan authorities temporarily banned the export of wheat flour and food wheat grains from the country for six months. The Ministry of Agriculture of the country explained that these measures were taken to ensure food security and stabilize market prices for food products.
At the same time, during the first seven months of the current year, Kyrgyzstan increased its wheat imports. According to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, the country imported a total of 181,200 tons of wheat from January through July 2023, which is 1.6 times higher than the 109,500 tons imported during the same period in 2022.
