Two new TV channels launched on Uzbek television

Two new channels 'Madaniyat va Marifat' ('Culture and Enlightenment') and 'Duno buylab' ('Around the World') were launched in the system of Uzbek National TV Radio Company (NTRC) on the New Year's eve.

Previously Trend reported that President Islam Karimov issued a decree "On increasing the number of digital TV channels of National Television Radio Company of Uzbekistan, their use in full format, high-quality content and services" in July last year, providing the establishment of two new public TV channels 'Culture and enlightenment' and 'Around the World'.

The main goals of the 'Culture and Enlightenment' TV channel are the creation of highly informative, popular scientific, cultural and educational television programs aimed at improving the cultural and educational level of the population.

The 'Around the World' channel will focus on expanding the outlook and education of population on history, geography, identity of national traditions and cultures of the world, great geographical discoveries, unique nature, flora and fauna of different continents and oceans, including by broadcasting production of leading TV channels of the world on a licensed basis.

Digital broadcasting is currently available for 37.5 per cent of the population. Free social package with 12 TV channels (seven domestic and five overseas) is presented to digital TV viewers.

Uzbekistan plans to carry out full transition to digital broadcasting in 2017.
