The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Uzbekistan has decided to convene the first meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (lower house of parliament) of the new convocation on Jan.12, said the CEC website Jan.8.

It is reported that the agenda of the first meeting of the Chamber will include organizational issues, in particular the election of a council of elders, House Speaker and his deputies.

In accordance with the legislation of the country, the first session of the Legislative Chamber is convened by the Central Election Commission. The first session is opened by the CEC Chairman, who presides until the election of the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber.

In addition, fractions of political parties and parliamentary groups will be registered, as well as committees of the Legislative Chamber will be formed at the meeting.

It was earlier reported that as a result of the elections held on Dec.21, 2014, as well as the re-vote held in 39 constituencies on Jan.4, 2015, some 135 MPs were elected from the four political parties and 15 MPs from the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan, elected at a conference of this public organization.

Uzbekistan's bicameral parliament was created in 2005. Its legislative chamber permanently employs 150 MPs and the parliament's upper house, known as the Senate, employs 100 MPs. They were elected for a five-year period.
