TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 21. China purchased $370.5 million worth of gas from Uzbekistan from January through August 2023, which is 40 percent less than the same period in 2022, Trend reports.
Uzbek pipeline gas supplies from China amounted to $203.9 million from January through June 2023. As per data provided by the Chinese General Customs Administration, gas supplies from Uzbekistan to China exceeded $1 billion in 2022.
Earlier, Uzbekistan’s Uzbekneftegaz, the largest oil and gas producer in Uzbekistan, reported that the estimated natural gas reserves in Uzbekistan amount to 1.8 trillion cubic meters.
Among the states selling pipeline gas to China, Uzbekistan has become the fifth major gas supplier, following Turkmenistan, Russia, Myanmar, and Kazakhstan.
Uzbekistan has resumed gas exports to China since April of this year. In the second quarter alone, Uzbekistan sold $204 million worth of gas to China.
Meanwhile, Uzbekneftegaz and its enterprises have overfilled the export plan by 16.2 percent over the first quarter of the current year.
