TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 29. The volume of pear exports from Uzbekistan decreased by 2.1 times from June 16 through September 15, 2023, compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.
Since the beginning of the current harvesting season in June, the volume of pear exports from Uzbekistan amounted to 1,644 tons, which is 52.94 percent less than 3,383 tons recorded in the same period last year.
One of the main factors of the sharp decline in the volume of exports of Uzbek pears this season is the relatively high price of these products compared to last year's levels. From mid-June through mid-September of 2023, the gap in average wholesale prices for pears in Uzbekistan ranged from 22 percent to 46 percent compared to last year's levels.
Nevertheless, the overall volume of fruit and vegetable exports increased compared to the last year’s levels, as Uzbekistan exported $763.6 million worth of fruits and vegetables abroad from January through August 2023, which is 16.5 percent more than in 2022.
Furthermore, Uzbekistan’s overall trade turnover amounted to $40 billion from January through August 2023, which is 23.2 percent ($7.5 billion) more compared to the same period last year.
Of these, the volume of exports amounted to $16.4 billion, an increase of 27.8 percent compared to 2022 statistics.
