Iran, Turkmenistan to hold economic commission meeting

Iran and Turkmenistan would open the 11th joint economic commission meeting on Wednesday, ISNA reported.

The two-day meeting is scheduled for July 20-21 in Ashgabat. Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi is to chair the Iranian side and Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Madoff would lead the Turkmen side.

They would discuss energy-related issues including oil, gas, power, water, transportation, industry, trade and commerce, agriculture, science, health, bank and customs.

The two sides are going to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the end of the meeting. The meeting is followed by a conference on commercial opportunities of the countries in presence of Iran's top engineering and exporting corporations.

The Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkmenistan have had a satisfying cooperation in fields of politics, economy and culture and the cooperation has grown over recent years. The volume of exchanges between the two countries in 2010 reached $4 billion.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is Turkmenistan's first business partner among the other major partners.

Industrial machineries and equipment, construction materials, automobiles and buses, foodstuffs, detergents, fruits, different domestic utensils are the most important exports to Turkmenistan and natural and liquefied gas, oil and petrochemical products, electricity, energy, textile and agricultural products are the main imports from Turkmenistan.
