A new natural gas well in the Persian Gulf will add 500,000 cubic metres of gas to Iran's production capacity, Pana news reported.

Well number 18 in the Qeshm and Sarkhoon gas field has begun operating couple of weeks ago. Situated in Iran's southern Hormozgan Province, the Sarkhoon and Gorzin gas fields have an output capacity of more than 17 million cubic metres (mcm) of natural gas from 21 wells.

The Sarkhoon field is 20 kilometres north east of the city of Bandar Abbas on the Persian Gulf. Its first well was drilled in 1973. The field has a production capacity of 15 mcm of gas a day and 12 thousand barrels of gas condensates.

Iran has drilled more wells in Sarkhoon's Razak and Jahrom reservoirs with work on three of them already completed. One more well is planned for the reservoirs.
