The issue of transiting Turkmenistan's gas via Iran to Turkey has not yet been finalised, the deputy director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) stated.

Mostafa Kashkooli told the Moj news agency that trilateral negotiations are underway.

Meanwhile, NIGC's managing director Javad Owji told the Mehr news agency that Iran and Turkey have recently come to terms on transiting Iranian gas to Europe.

According to the agreement, Iran will export gas to Europe via Turkey and transit the same amount of Turkmen gas to Turkey, instead.

However no official from Turkmenistan, Turkey or the EU has confirmed Iran's claimed agreement.

Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi said on September 1 that his talks with the Turkish minister of development Cevdet Yilmaz that took place during the Non-Alignment Movement Summit in Tehran had positive results for increasing gas exports from Iran to Turkey as well as transiting Iranian gas to Europe via Turkey.
