Iran proposes using D8 with bartering system of trade to boost trade

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has made a proposal to member states of the Developing-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation of the launching of a system of bartering in a bid to cope with the economic crisis in the world and boost trade, the Mehr News agency reported.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has made a proposal to member states of the Developing-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation of the launching of a system of bartering in a bid to cope with the economic crisis in the world and boost trade, the Mehr News agency reported.

He also called for establishing a joint investment fund and enhancing economic relations among private sectors of the member states.

Preferential trade agreements between the D8 countries should be enforced as soon as possible, he emphasised.

The Developing-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation adopted its Charter at its eighth summit in Islamabad on Thursday which was signed by the foreign ministers of each participating country to promote interaction, trade and economic ties between them.
The signing ceremony of the D8 Charter was also witnessed by the leaders of the summit. The charter included comprehensive detail of objectives and principles of the organisation for improving its activities.

Through this charter, the member states of the organisation comprising Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey, are committed to follow the principles and objectives as stated in the Istanbul Declaration; when the organisation was established in 1997.

The D8 group with a population of around one billion has already enhanced global trade from $67 billion in 2008 to $130 billion in 2011 and is determined to boost the figure to $500 billion by 2018.
