Trend:

Iran's home appliance production is capable of responding to the country's demand, secretary-general of Iran Home Appliance Industries told Trend in an interview.

In terms of quantity, the capacity of production units for most home appliance items could meet the country's needs, Abbas Hashemi has indicated.

"Considering the diversity of items such as split air conditioner, clothes iron, shaving machine or small home appliances it's possible that we could not produce all of them, in some cases, production units had made good investments but it would take time to meet demand," he explained.

"In terms of quality, there is a short distance between Iran and top world brands, the quality of domestic home appliance and services have matured," he stressed.

The official noted the number of home appliance production units saying there are under small manufacturers with 50 workers, medium factories with over 50 to 150 staff, and bigger producers with more than 200 employees.

Hashemi added that currently, 80 to 85 percent of production units in Iran are SMEs, the number of big home appliance production factories with more than 200 staff are perhaps 12, from more than 600 production units 580 are Small and Medium Enterprises Units (SME).

Referring to production statistics in the home appliance sector he indicated that production volume in the first three months of last Iranian year (started March 20, 2020) was 374,000 refrigerators, 212,000 washing machines, and 224,000 televisions which increased in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2021) and reached to 483,000 refrigerators, 297,000 washing machines and 269,000 television devices.

The statistics show that the production of refrigerators in the current Iranian year had a 29 percent increase, washing machine production had a 40 percent growth and television production had a 20 percent rise compared to last year.

It is estimated that the market's demand for home appliances in the current Iranian year would reach 12.5 million devices and small and medium-sized production units would have a high share in production.
