(CIHAN) - A Turkish diplomat has been shot and injured at the Turkish Embassy in Baghdad, a statement issued from Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Turkish diplomat Ozcan Sahin was attacked on Saturday in the garden of the Turkish Embassy in Iraqi capital and he was immediately admitted to a hospital with an abdomen wound. Doctors at the hospital could not take the bullet out due to the insufficiency of equipment and Sahin was airlifted to Ankara on Sunday by a CASA military plane.
The diplomat was taken to Ataturk Education and Research Hospital in Ankara and he had a surgery last night, reports Trend.
The statement went on to say that the health condition of the patient was stable and he is expected to be released soon.
The nature of the attack is still unknown and an investigation into the issue is underway.
