By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran will manufacture pharmaceutical centrifuges with 80,000 round per minute speed within the next six months.

Ali-Akbar Salehi, Director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said the centrifuges would be used in the production of recombinant drugs and vaccines, Iran 's Tasnim news agency reported Feb. 11.

Centrifuges that are used to enrich uranium are run at 60,000 rpm speed, he said, adding that the next generation of the centrifuges will be equipped with refrigerators and will run at 80,000-100,000 rpm speed.

The country needs 100 enhanced design centrifuges, he noted.

"We have manufactured these centrifuges in accordance with the clients' needs," he said. The older generations of the centrifuges were typically manually operated, but the new generations are both equipped with monitors and are fully automated, he stated.

Western countries have imposed sanctions on Iran claiming that the country is trying to use the nuclear energy for non-peaceful purposes, something Iran denies.

The sanctions have affected the country's health system both in terms of drugs import and equipment and technology needed in pharmaceutical centers. Under such circumstances, the Iranian government has decided to tap domestic talents to cope with the shortage of drugs and equipment.
