Iran increased the gas delivery to power plants during 11 months of current fiscal year (started on March 21), but it is still far behind the target.
According to the latest weekly report released by Energy Ministry, Iran increased gas supply to power plants by 6.4 percent to 54 billion cubic meters.
Iran was delivering 202 million cubic meters of gas per day (mcm/d) to power plants during the first half of current fiscal year (summer and spring), but the volume decreased gradually in the second half of the year due to rising gas demand in housing sector and Turkmenistan’s cutting gas flow to Iran on January 1.
Iran delivered 58 bcm of gas to power plants during last fiscal year and planned to increase this volume by 7 bcm in the current fiscal year.
According to the National Iranian Gas Company’s statistics, Iran’s housing sector consumed 525 mcm/d of gas during Feb. 19.
The figure was only 160 mcm/d in spring and summer in average.
The latest statistics of Energy Ministry indicate that during 11th month, Iran delivered only 66 mcm/d of gas to power plants.
The power sector consumed 3.573 million liters of gas oil (-10.1 percent Y/Y) as well as 2.898 billion liters of fuel oil (-41.5 percent Y/Y) during 11 months as well.
In total, the country generated 263.203 billion kilowatt hours of electricity during the mentioned period.
Iran’s electricity export decreased by 27 percent to 6.183 billion kWh, while its import increased by 6 percent to 3.64 billion kWh during 11 months.
