Iran increased oil export to 28 members of the European Union by 6.7 times to 9.316 million tons in January-April 2017, the European Commission’s statistics indicate.
According to the report, Iran’s oil export to the EU was 1.378 million tons during the same period last year.
Thus, Iran’s daily oil export to the EU in January-April reached about 575,000 barrels. A third of this volume was delivered to Italy, while 25 percent was exported to France. Spain and Greece also imported each a little more than one million tons of Iranian oil in four months of 2017.
Before sanctions were imposed on Iran by the US and the EU in 2011, Iran was exporting 2.5 million barrels per day (b/d) of oil (including gas condensate), of which 587,000 b/d was delivered to the EU.
According to Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority, Turkey also doubled Iranian oil intake in January-April 2017 to 3.662 million tons. Thus, during the four months of 2017, Iran exported about 800,000 b/d of oil to the western markets.
Iran has resumed its oil exports after removal of sanctions to the pre-sanctions level.
