Senior banker discloses plans to back agriculture sector(exclusive)

The newly-appointed CEO of Agriculture Bank of Iran, Ruhollah Khodarahmi, has told Trend that his bank seeks to contribute to the government plans aimed at developing the country’s agriculture sector.

Saying that supporting the plans to equip Iranian farmers with modern agricultural machinery is on the agenda, Khodarahmi added that the specialized financial institution has decided to allocate 1.2 trillion tomans ($300 million) to the plan.

He further touched upon the prioritized plans of the bank and said developing greenhouses is also of high significance and Agriculture Bank has allocated 390 billion tomans (about $97.5 million) in loan to these projects over the current fiscal year (starting March 20).

The Bank is also expected to finance worth of 150 billion tomans (about $37.5 million) over the ending two month of the year, he added.

Describing the projects for breeding fishes in cages as a prioritized plan, the CEO added that his bank is expected to allocate $350 million to such plans.

Agricultural products accounted for an 8.9 percent share from the country’s total non-oil exports with a value of $2.819 billion.
