Iran’s live fish exports has witnessed a huge rise by 240 percent in last fiscal year, ended March 20, 2018, said Alireza Rafiei, chairman of Iran Veterinary Organization.
Rafiei said that the Islamic Republic exported 3 million live fish in the 12-month period as compared to 883,000 in preceding year, ILNA news agency reported.
Iran also exported 53,000 tons of frozen fish in the same period, 26 percent more year-on-year, he said.
According to the official, the country’s shrimp exports amounted to 25,000 tons in last fiscal year, which is 67 percent more as compared to the preceding year.

Previously, Iranian Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati said that the country’s fishery output would surpass one million tons over the last fiscal year.
The minister forecasted that fish farming cages would double the output over the fiscal 2017/18 year.
Iran has the capacity to produce one million tons of fish in cages in the Caspian Sea, the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman, according to the country’s fishery officials.
Iranian officials say that the country’s annual agricultural output stands at 120 million tons, worth $80 million. The figure includes 82 million tons of crops, 20 million tons of horticultural products, 14 million tons of livestock, and more than one million ton of fishery products.
