Iran, Germany to talk power plant construction

Iran and Germany will study possibilities of cooperation regarding establishing of power plants in Iran, the Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardekanian said.

Ardekanian has travelled to Germany to weigh plans for environmental and energy cooperation between the two countries, the state-run IRINN TV reported.

The Iranian minister said that he will negotiate construction of power plants with output capacity of 10,000 MW and technology transfer to Iran in this field with Federal Minister of Germany for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier during the visit.

The two sides also will discuss investment in renewable energy sector, Ardekanian added.

He further said that the during the meeting with Germany’s Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety Svenja Schulze the two parties underlined developing the activities of the joint committee for cooperation in the water sector.

Iran and Germany agreed upon preparing a road map for long-term cooperation, in particular, in management of joint watersheds in border areas of Iran and the treatment and rehabilitation of wastewater, Ardekanian said.

In addition to meetings with German officials, the Iranian minister also took part in IFAT, known as the world’s leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management, in Munich, which kicked off on May 14.

In 2016, Germany launched a plan for long-term cooperation with solar companies and industry associations in Iran to develop renewable energy strategies based on its experiences.
