South Korea not yet releasing Iran's frozen funds - CBI governor

TEHRAN, Iran, Apr.9

Trend:

Nothing has happened as far as South Korea releasing Iran's frozen assets is concerned, the Governor of Iran's Central Bank Abdolnaser Hemmati said, Trend reports via IRNA.

"A total of $7 billion from Iran's resources has been blocked in South Korea, and these funds need to be released as soon as possible," said Hemmati.

"The Central Bank of Iran is responsible for this money, and using these resources is the right of Islamic Republic of Iran," he said.

"The CBI is also following the issue of receiving a fine (from South Korea) in this regard," he said.

South Korea has previously stated that it had agreed on a way forward to release the money frozen from Iran's oil sales but was waiting the approval of the US.
