BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 2. The volume of cargo handled and unloaded in the ports of Hormuzgan Province, located in southern Iran, increased by 59 percent in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024) compared to the previous year (March 21, 2022 - March 20, 2023), director general of Iran's Hormuzgan Port and Maritime Administration of Iran's Hormuzgan Province Hossein Abbasnejad said, Trend reports.
According to Abbasnejad, almost 109 million tons of goods were handled and unloaded at Iran's Hormuzgan Province ports last year.
According to Abbasnejad, non-oil products accounted for approximately 74.1 million tons of loaded and discharged freight.
According to the official, approximately 40.9 million tons of non-oil products were exported through Iran's Hormuzgan provincial ports last year. Exports of non-oil items increased by 39 percent over the previous year.
He stated that 35.4 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products were loaded and unloaded at Iran's provincial ports last year.
"A total of 11.6 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products were exported through the provincial ports last year," he said.
He emphasized that 2.36 million TEU of containers were loaded and unloaded at the region's ports during the mentioned period. This is 10 percent more than last year.
To note, Iran's Hormuzgan Province has a 2,200 km-long maritime border. It has 32 ports operating in the province.
