Tehran, Iran, Sept. 5

By Mehdi Sepahvand, Fatih Karimov – Trend:

Turkey's actions against terrorists in Syria are understandable, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Bahram Qasemi, said at a press conference in Tehran on Sept. 5.

However he added that Turkey shouldn't damage Syrian sovereignty, Trend correspondent reported from the event.

Qasemi made the remarks while commenting about Turkey’s ongoing military operations in Syria.

Ankara cannot infringe a country's territorial integrity without the permit from central government of that country, he said.

On Aug. 24 morning, the Turkish Air Force with the support of the coalition aircraft launched an operation to liberate the city of Jarabulus from the “Islamic State” (IS, ISIL, ISIS or Daesh) terrorist group militants in northern Syria, near Aleppo city.

The operation was carried out under the name “Shield of the Euphrates.”

Elswhere in his remarks Qasemi said that Iran and Turkey do not think in the same way on Syria.

While commenting about the Russia-US talks over Syrian crisis, the Iranian diplomat said that Tehran welcomes any agreement which can lead to political solution in the country.

Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March 2011, which, according to the UN, has so far claimed over 500,000 lives. Militants from various armed groups are confronting the Syrian government troops.
