Iranian army's air force has launched three-day war games aimed at demonstrating the capabilities of the air force in safeguarding the Islamic Republic’s airspace.

The large-scale drills, which began on Monday, take place in the central province of Esfahan, IRNA news agency reported Oct. 17.

In addition to the interceptor aircraft and fighter bombers of the Iranian air force, transport planes, reconnaissance aircraft, refueling planes and different types of drones are taking part in the massive drills.

In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in the production of important military equipment and systems.

The country has also conducted major military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and state-of-the-art equipment.

The Islamic Republic maintains that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
