By Emil Ilgar – Trend:
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says his people have never considered the US policies as positive, but coming to President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, he prefers to wait and see.
“I believe we need for the administration to take office before we start passing judgments. Of course we have very fundamental differences with the US. We tried to resolve one issue [nuclear deal] and that was not just with the US but with five other countries and the EU. That has been working at least from our side [Iran] pretty well...,” he said.
Zarif was responding to a question on his judgment on the incoming Trump administration at a World Economic Forum conference in Davos, Switzerland, Jan. 18, which was aired live by the WEF website.
“So, we will have to wait and see what President-elect Trump, once inaugurated, will try to pursue as his policies. So, I reserve my judgment as under positive and negative sides,” Zarif added.
“From the perspective of the Iranian people the policies of the US have never been positive,” he concluded.
Earlier during the day, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met in Davos to discuss regional and international issues.
Zarif has conferred with Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter on the sidelines of WEF as well.
Iranian and Swiss foreign ministers discussed mutual issues, regional and international developments, IRNA reported.
