Polish President to Visit Batumi

Georgia, Tbilisi, 30 June / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia / On 30 June, Lekh Kachniski President of Poland pays a visit to Batumi. According t the Georgian State chancellory, the Polish President will participate in the GUAM summit on 1 July.

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili will meet with the Polish President on 30 June.

The 3rd GUAM summit will be attended by the organization member-countries (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova) - Mikhail Saakashvili, Viktor Yushenko, Ilham Aliyev and Vladimir Voronin, as well as Presidents of Lithuania and Poland -Valdas Adamkus and Lekh Kachniski.

Four post-Soviet republics; Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, established the GUAM format in 1997 during a summit of presidents of European Union countries in Strasburg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organization but left four years later. In 2006, at the first summit of the organization in Kiev a decision was made to announce GUAM as an international organization with a new name; Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM.
