U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Eric Rubin believes it is important for Georgia how the arrests in the country are perceived abroad.

It is important for "the West to see continued progress in the political sphere, which will confirm the development of democracy in the country," Rubin said at a briefing in Tbilisi.

Based on this, Rubin said, it's also important how the Western society will evaluate the arrests in Georgia.

It should be noted that the Western press has regarded the recent detentions as the political persecution of the former government, and it was reflected in the leading and prestigious publications in the USA and France.

At the same time, the U.S. diplomat said the U.S. supports democratic processes in Georgia, and will continue to provide assistance to Georgia in matters of security and defense, as well as to promote its integration into Euro-Atlantic structures.
