German leaders congratulate Giorgi Margvelashvili on his victory in presidential elections

Tbilisi, Georgia, Nov. 12

By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend: German Chancellor, Angela Merkel and German President, Joachim Gauck congratulated Giorgi Margvelashvili on his victory in the presidential elections.

Merkel said in the letter that the elections were very fair, transparent and peaceful, and it is a very good foundation for two important events that are expected in Georgia this month.

"According to the new constitution, which will come into force during the execution of your duties, Georgia will move to a parliamentary democracy. By late November the initialling of the association and free trade agreement with the EU at the Vilnius summit will be an important step for your country, for political and economic rapprochement with the EU. German Federal Government will remain a reliable partner and will help Georgia to achieve this and other goals," Angela Merkel's message said.

German President Joachim Gauck, in turn, noted that Germany is a reliable partner of Georgia. President Gauck also added that his country will in the future help the Georgia in implementation of democratic reforms.

"Germany with high expectations and sympathy follows the aspiration of your country for strengthening democracy, welfare of the population, and creating good prospects for further rapprochement with Europe. In the future Germany will be a reliable partner of Georgia and will help it in the implementation of these complex and important reforms," German president's message said.
