Georgia sees increase in gasoline and diesel fuel imports in 2021

Georgia’s imports of gasoline and diesel fuel from January through December 2021 amounted to 1.1 million tons, which is an increase of 3.9 percent, or 42,700 tons, compared to 2020, Trend reports via the Union of Petroleum Products Importers of Georgia.

The same figure also increased by 4.8 percent, or 52,700 tons, compared to the reporting period of 2019 (before the COVID-19 pandemic).

Meanwhile, Georgia’s imports of gasoline in 2021 amounted to 587,179 tons – an increase of 46,800 tons or 8.7 percent, compared to 2020.

Georgia’s imports of diesel fuel in 2021 totaled 561,526 tons – a decrease of 4,100 tons or 0.7 percent, compared to 2020.

As for the types of gasoline fuel, RON-91 gasoline amounted to 375,883 tons (64 percent), RON-95 gasoline – 199,490 tons (34 percent), RON-98 gasoline – 11,805 tons (2 percent).

According to the Union, despite the increase in fuel prices in 2021, an increase in imports and consumption is observed as well, which is directly related to Georgia’s rapid economic growth and recovery.
