Syrian peace talks due in January are "the best opportunity" for an agreement to end the civil war and form a transition government, US Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday, but warned it would not be easy, dpa reported.
"We are well aware that the obstacles on the road to a political solution are many, and we will enter the Geneva conference on Syria with our eyes wide open," Kerry said.
"The thousands of men, women and children suffering in Syria today cannot wait for us to meet in Geneva for their cries to be heard," Kerry said, pointing to the threat of extremism and foreign fighters, as well as the regime's use of starvation as a weapon of war.
