Clash between Taliban and police in the relatively peaceful Baghlan province of north Afghanistan left eight insurgents and two policemen dead, said a statement of Interior Ministry issued here on Monday, reported Xinhua.
"The militants attacked police checkpoint in Shari Kohna area of Baghlan-e-Markazi, and police returned fire, killing eight rebels on the spot and injured three others," the statement added.
Two police were also killed in the firefight, it added.
However, it did not mention the exact time of the clash but some media had reported that it began on Sunday morning and lasted till Monday.
Taliban militants fighting Afghan and international troops have yet to make comments.
Baghlan, a peaceful province in north Afghanistan, has seen Taliban regrouping and surge in their activities as the date for the second Afghan presidential elections is getting closer.
