German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle arrived in the Jordanian capital Amman on Sunday night on a two-day visit to discuss issues concerning the Middle East conflict, dpa reported.

According to diplomats, a meeting later Sunday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas would focus on the Palestinian Authority's plan to go to the United Nations for full recognition of a Palestinian state on all Palestinian lands occupied by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war.

Westerwelle is scheduled to hold talks on Monday with his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judeh as well as have a meeting with King Abdullah II.

The discussions are expected to tackle the implications of the Arab Spring uprisings and efforts being made to ensure a resumption of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, officials said.
