US Republican candidate Mitt Romney has chosen Paul Ryan, a Wisconsin Congressman, as his vice-presidential running mate, his campaign announced Saturday, reported dpa.
The long-awaited decision came in an email from the Romney campaign team.
The pair will face up against incumbent Democrat Barack Obama and Joe Biden, the current vice president, in November's election.
Ryan sits on the House Budget committee, where he is seen as a tax-cutter working to reduce federal spending.
The Romney campaign had kept the choice of running mate a relatively well-kept secret, with former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty and Ohio Senator Rob Portman also widely tipped.
