US President Barack Obama is Time Magazine's 2012 Person of the Year, the publication announced Wednesday. 2012 Person of the Year, dpa reported.
Obama beat off rivals such as Malala Yousafzai, the 15-year-old Pakistani schoolgirl who was shot in the head, Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi, Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton and Marissa Mayer of Yahoo Inc and Tim Cook of Apple Inc.
The magazine lauded the president "For finding and forging a new majority, for turning weakness into opportunity and for seeking, amid great adversity, to create a more perfect union."
The Person of the Year accolade purports to recognize the person or thing that had most influenced culture and news during the year. Last year's honour went to "The Protestor".
