There are fears for the centuries-old Jokhang Temple amid reports that a huge fire has broken out near the holiest site in Tibetan Buddhism.

It was unclear which structure or structures were on fire, but reports on social media claimed it wasn't the main building of the temple in Tibet's capital Lhasa.

There were unconfirmed reports that Jokhang's east chapel or a monks' quarters may have been on fire.
