Islamic countries to raise $500 mln for Somalia

Islamic Cooperation Organization Executive Committee held an extraordinary meeting in Istanbul on the call of Turkey, TRT reported.

The meeting was participated by the representatives of 57 countries in which Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that what had been lived in Somalia was a test for humanity and God Willing humanity would succeed in that test.

Prime Minister Erdoğan reminded that $200 million were collected for Somalia in Turkey and expressed his hope that his Somalia visit will boost morale of the Somalian people and will motivate sleeping conscience of the world.

Addressing the meeting Somalian President Sheikh Sharif Ahmad thanked Turkey for its efforts and said that Somalia was waiting for the helping hand and all countries of the world should hold up Turkey as an example.

The Islamic countries decided to establish The Somalia Fund for which $350 million were pledged and the efforts will be made to raise this amount to $500 million in a short period of time.

All these aid activities will be monitored by Somalian Task Force.
