Turkish premier says if world believes in democracy, it should support Palestine

Turkey's prime minister said on Wednesday that if the world believed in democracy and rights and freedoms, it should support Palestine, AA reported.

"If the world believes in democracy and rights and freedoms, every one should support establishment of a state by Palestinian people, who have been living under occupation for decades," Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters in New York.

Erdogan said he thought Palestine's demand to be recognized by the United Nations (UN) was rightful and a demand delayed for years.

"I believe it is high time that Palestinian people were granted this right," Erdogan said.

Erdogan said Turkey and Turkish people were sharing the views and statements of the Palestinian people.

Palestine has launched initiatives to join the UN to be admitted as a full member state.
