Number of foreign backed companies increases in Turkey

The number of companies backed by foreign capital in Turkey in 2012 increased by 14 per cent compared to 2011, amounting to 32,600 firms, according to the report of the Ministry of Economy of Turkey, published on Wednesday on its official website.

The number of companies backed by foreign capital in Turkey in 2012 increased by 14 per cent compared to 2011, amounting to 32,600 firms, according to the report of the Ministry of Economy of Turkey, published on Wednesday on its official website.

Of the total number of companies backed by foreign capital, 5400 companies were created with a participation of local and foreign capital.

According to the report, nearly 10,500 enterprises operate in the wholesale and retail trade, 5200 companies in the sale and rental of real estate, 4900 enterprises in the field of processing, 3200 in construction, 3000 in the field of transport and communications and 1800 in the hotel and restaurant businesses.

Over 50 per cent of enterprises with foreign capital account for the EU countries led by Germany - 5000 companies, United Kingdom - 2400 companies and the Netherlands - 2100 companies.

The European countries are followed by Iran (2,800 companies) and Azerbaijan (1,100 companies).

The largest number of foreign companies operating in Turkey is located in the province of Istanbul - 18,900, Antalya - 3700, Ankara - 1800 and Mugla - 1400 enterprises.
