Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu has not ruled out the appointment of acting head of Istanbul’s municipality instead of Ekrem Imamoglu, Trend reports referring to Turkish media.
Reportedly, Soylu will announce the final decision on this issue on September 8.
Earlier, the Turkish interior minister criticized Imamoglu’s visit to Diyarbakir, where he held the meetings with representatives of the People’s Democratic Party.
Soylu said that Imamoglu must fulfil the powers entrusted to him and if he does not do this, he will regret.
On June 23, 2019, repeated municipal elections were held in Istanbul, at which the candidate of the main opposition party Ekrem Imamoglu won, receiving 54.03 percent of the vote.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated Imamoglu on his victory in the repeated municipal elections in Istanbul.
