Turkey records fewer cargo shipments at Izmir Airport

Some 17,497 tons of cargo have been transported via Turkey’s Adnan Menderes Airport, Izmir province from January through March 2021, which is 16 percent less compared to 3M2020, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey told Trend.­­­­

According to the ministry, in the reporting month, the country’s domestic flights through the Adnan Menderes Airport transported 15,182 tons of cargo, showing an 8-percent increase over the year.

At the same time, 2,315 tons of cargo were transported through the airport by international flights, which is a plunge by 66 percent year-on-year, the ministry said.

The Adnan Menderes Airport served over 1.1 million passengers in the first three months of this year, which is 48 percent less compared to the same period of 2020.

Slightly over 1 million passengers were served on domestic flights over the reporting period, while a year earlier this indicator was 43 percent more.

As reported, 77,564 passengers were served on international flights, down 77 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, 9,237 flights were carried out through the Adnan Menderes Airport, which is a decrease of 42 percent.

In the reporting period, 8,351 flights were carried out on domestic flights, which is a decrease of 36 percent year on year.

International flights via the Adnan Menderes Airport shrank by 69 percent over the year, amounting to 886 flights.

During the reporting period, 373,201 tons of cargo have been transported through all airports in the country.
